The Virginia Scholarship and Youth Development Foundation's purpose is to provide access to higher education for high school graduating seniors who without financial aid and scholarship assistance would not have the opportunity to receive a college education. The scholarship is to be applied towards tuition, room and board. Funds will be issued over a four (4)/five (5) year period (based on graduation) as long as the student meets the necessary qualifications.
Scholarships are awarded based on the following criteria:
- High School seniors must have an overall grade point average of 2.5 or above out of 4.0. A score of 900 on the SAT or 19 on the ACT. The applicant's high school counselor must submit the transcript and scores.
- Applicants should submit three letters of recommendation from sources other than relatives, with personal knowledge of their abilities
- Applicants must complete the application form and include all requested information
- Applicants must submit their financial aid award letter
- Eligible recipients for the Virginia Scholarship and Youth Development Foundation shall be limited to those individuals who would otherwise not be financially able to obtain a college education. They must show good moral character and much express ambition and the potential for success in a college environment
- Scholarship recipients must have the college/school registrar provide official notifications of enrollment before scholarship funds will be issued. The Virginia Scholarship and Youth Development Foundation Board of Directors will notify recipient

2. Attach three (3) letters of recommendation from persons who know your capabilities and/or background. Do not use relatives.
